| Get them now: Verizon's new services and phones By Joni Blecher (9/23/02; updated 1/30/03) Following Sprint's launch of its PCS Vision service, Verizon Wireless has a new downloadable entertainment and application service called Get It Now, available for BREW-enabled phones. What's BREW? The short explanation is it's Qualcomm's answer to J2ME. The good news for consumers is that unlike Sprint, Verizon won't bill you a monthly fee to use its extracurricular services; instead, charges apply on only a per-download basis, as well as for airtime. To give you a better idea of what Get It Now is all about, we put together a list of compatible phones and services. While only a few models are currently available, Verizon says there will be several more BREW mobiles coming in the weeks and months ahead. As soon as we get firm release dates, we'll include them in our monthly "Cell phones coming soon" feature. |
