"i880 Motorola Nextel"
Pros: Sweet finish, 2MP Camera, MP3, Strong Signal, Push Flip, Glowing M Logo & Controls, Great Size
Cons: Same OS & Menu, Still Big For a Phone, No Status Light, Needs 260,000 Front LCD
Summary: If youre thinking about upgrading your Nextel, or starting new service now is the time to do it. The i880 is one of the most beautiful phones on the market and has a ton of features in a great package.
To start we will touch on the size of the phone. The phone is much smaller than the i870 as far as bulk but carries a little more length, a welcoming design making it a great fit for the phone. I am surprised with this wave of releases Moto and Nextel didnt release an iDEN version of the RAZR.
Many people are probably not aware that Nextel has released the ic502 and ic402 in select markets. You will not find them online but select markets have them. Whats the big deal about this and why am I mentioning this? I am making it known that the i880 will most likely be the last iDEN only phone. The new ic series phones use Sprint CDMA for voice and iDEN for DC. You may think this is great however the company is already having trouble with battery life since the phone cloaks two services together and drains the juice. They are also eager to roll these dual mode phones out because Boost is bogging down their iDEN network, a little inside scoop for you all.
Last but not least the price point on my Company intranet is $59.00 for the ic502 and $39.00 for the ic402. So think about it, these new phones coming out are cheap, very cheap. We all know that Moto makes the toughest and most durable phones in the world for iDEN, and we also know they crank out some cheap CDMA phones. They are luring in more customers to use Direct Connect but not so great phones.
So pick up the last real iDEN phone.
On to the phone& 2MP camera is sharp but dont plan on ditching you digital. I actually printed a few and they are very good. Music player is cool and works well with the front controls. Finish is neat and has an appealing color. Back has a graphite look to it and feels excellent in the hand. Front LCD is good but could use a 260K screen. The blue Moto logo is hot and glows on a call and when you have missed a call/message. It has high end written all over it.
Voice quality was amazing and the speaker is very loud if you need it. It is also front firing so no more back speaker muffling. Battery life is great and last two days with moderate use. It comes with a Micro SD and adapter but at a meager 64 MB. With the cost of the phone leading the Nextel flagship market a 1 GB would be nice. Come on Nextel we all know they cost $10.00 these days!
The phone also has chrome accents that really stand out. No stereo headset is included which is a big mistake because it renders the MP3 capability useless unless you want to blare it out loud. Luckily I still have mine that came with my i930. Its like buying a car with no steering wheel.
Overall the phone is awesome and I am proud to possibly own the last real quality iDEN. I know with companies like Southern Linc and Mike wireless in Canada Moto will still make iDEN only handsets lets just hope the quality doesnt go down.
The only reason it didn't get a 10 is because of the size and front LCD resolution.

Hi,
i would like to know if you can use your mp3 files as ringtones on this cell phone.
Thank you -
Does anyone think that Motorola will release a razor model with direct connect as part of the phone? You mentioned it in your review and the idea interest me. I would love to upgrade to such a phone.
Thanks
