"Extremely Rugged & Great Features"
Pros: Rugges, Water Reistant, Great Features, Works As Advertised
Cons: Would like to see customization software (add wallpaper, ringtones, etc.) included.
Summary: I've been a Nextel customer for 7 years (i1000, i550plus, i700plus, i60, i90c, i730) and this is the best phone from them yet. I was thinking of switching to an i355 for connectivity & durability issues; but my Nextel Rep. talked me into giving the i580 a chance, speaking very highly of it and offering to trade it for an i355 if I didn't like it. Well, I've had NO connection issues (...I seem to get a good signal no matter where I am), the sound is both loud & crystal clear, and this is one truly rugged phone. The addition of a camera, which I originally viewed as a gimmick, turned out to be a real plus when I found I needed to document something and didn't have any other camera available. The microSD memory card allows a wide variety of possibilities in addition to phone options - I've also used it as a "flash drive" to transfer files between computers. I am VERY happy with the i580 and have no intentions on trading it in. Thanks, Nextel!

Two days ago my sons football practice was cancelled due to heavy rain and lightning. My i580 was under my rain coat in its holster when the rain hit. It got barely wet and the sound is now crackly. Nextel/Sprint won't warrantee it due to water entry. The ad in the store says it passes military specs with dust, shock and rain. I think the ad is deceptive, and Nextel should make good. It was not dropped in a river, it was hit by a few drops. I am not impressed by their advertising claims.
