    "Great phone, great features, expensive!"

    by meda555 on June 22, 2007

Pros: Nice feel, great looking screen, rugged, sprint/nextel hybrid, power vision features and lots of extras

    Cons: Bug in phone software!

Summary: This is more of a first look review, i just bought the phone 2 days ago. My wife and i actually just traded in our ic502's for this phone and were amazed at first. Whenever i try to do anything with stored pictures or video the phone will freeze! I think this issue has to do with a needed phone update that is not available at the moment but i am keeping faith. It is hard for me to type all of the things i love about the phone, which is almost everything, because i am so frustrated with the phone freezing whenever i try to use picture mail or other areas in the picture and video portion of the phone. This is not just my phone but also my wife's phone will freeze in the same place! It is almost like the program is just bad becuase the phone will allow me to turn it off no problem and the phone will make the normal sounds when certain buttons are pushed. I have had phones before that just lock up and you have to remove the battery. This is not the case with this phone, it seems like it wants to work but the program just gets stuck. So i am giving the phone an eight with frustration and faith in it getting an update to fix the bug. Maybe i will write another review when the phone gets the update!
    Updated
So my first review was a little bit biased since i was just in a frustrated state of mind. What are the odds of my wife and i getting two phones with the same defect? Well we traded them in for two new ones and the phones work great! This phone has a great way of feeling sleek and rugged. The phone is surprisingly slender but feels tough! The phone itself has a satisfying weight to it and has a nice coarse gunmetal plastic material surrounding it that eliminates finger prints! I even read up that the casing has an anti-microbial material which is good since i work in a lab. When you open the phone up for the first time you will be amazed by the sharp rich screen that spans across the phone. The screen is so detailed and easy to read. Every button feels rugged an yet sleek at the same time. The phone has so many options and features i do not even know the half of them yet. There are useful tools such as tip calculators, unit converter, currency converter, advanced calculator, mp3's, video's, sprint power vision, on demand, 2.0 mega pixel camera and more! I love the Nextel features being a previous sprint customer. The Nextel Walkie is a blessing! When i ride my bike i use the supplied clip and clip the phone onto the strap of my camel back and my wife can easily get a hold of me while all i have to do is reach across my chest and hit a button to talk. There is also an external speaker button that you can press to answer the phone if someone calls you so you never even have to open the phone. The Nextel walkie has a direct talk mode which instead of using the network will actually work like a 2-way radio with a 6 mile range. This feature is great when we go hiking where there is no phone service! You can even talk to anyone who has a Nextel phone with the "direct talk" option and have group talks if more people go hiking with us. The phone is loud when the volume is up and no matter how loud you go, the quality never distorts even with the speaker. The applications on the phone work very fast and fluid like. I am very picky with electronics and i feel that this phone has set a new standard in almost every category. The best part about this phone is that it is a Sprint and Nextel Hybrid so it the phone coverage is unrivaled and also the fact sprint has no roaming charges. The Sprint PCS network is crystal clear and works everywhere i need it and when it does not work, i will get Nextel. This is the first phone i have ever seen of all the employees that work at my lab that will actually get signal. And it is not just barely getting it, it will have about 2 to 3 bars! The walkie feature is just like the cherry on top! I need to say this phone should be a 10!
