CNET'S QUICK GUIDE: Windows Vista is in sync with your files

Offline files

Another sharing option is to use Offline files, available only in Windows Vista Business and Enterprise editions. Although not strictly file sharing, Offline files allow users to download and maintain the contents of folders otherwise stored on a network server. This is a good option when connection to a remote server is markedly slow. By working offline, you can add, change, or delete the contents of any file you have permission to modify. When you are again connected to the network, the two files will be synchronized so that all your offline changes appear on the stored network copy. The Offline files feature is similar to Folder Redirection (FR), currently available within Windows XP.
