- "Surfing made safer"
Even the most advanced antispyware security can't guarantee your computer's safety, because most programs scan your site for digital nasties after they've already taken root. This ingenious Firefox extension warns you about covert spyware and browser-hijack attempts as you visit a site.
SiteAdvisor operates as an unobtrusive signal in your browser interface, turning green if the site is safe, yellow if it's suspect, and red if it senses threats or annoyances. The same coding system applies to Yahoo and Google search results, inserting a red, yellow, or green icon next to each link. Clicking these icons provides full diagnostics of the sites' threats, including links to other suspect sites, high spam counts, and the number of dangerous downloads.
We also liked the URL highlighter, which displays site rankings directly from your search engine, helping deflect drive-by installs that may initiate as soon as you type a URL. In our tests, SiteAdvisor turned out accurate and reliable results, and though it doesn't have a wide array of features, we urge any regular Firefox user to try this no-cost extension.

Version: McAfee SiteAdvisor for Firefox 26.6
"I loathe the new version (2.9.242) of SiteAdvisor"
Pros: Not much. I liked the original [non-McAfee] SiteAdvisor better.
Cons: No discernible improvement over prior versions - just more intrusion. I want one of the older versions back.
Summary: It's that new "improved" tooltip-like popup at the bottom of Firefox. Much too big/too loud/too trigger-happy. I think the green, yellow, red colors of the status bar button were enough and do NOT want more details in my face unless I click for them... read more >>

Version: McAfee SiteAdvisor for Firefox 26.6
Pros: Nothing now it has been updated.
Cons: It has installed additions I never asked for, nor wanted. It's sneaky and hogs everything. I loved this add-on, now I hate it. For now I have disabled it.
Summary: Safe search bar has to go. I want to go back to previous edition but don't know how to do that. Anyone who does I would appreciate your advice. I have installed WOT, but that seems pointless and not as good as the old McAfee Site Advisor. Oh woe is ... read more >>

"Crap now that it has been updated"
Pros: There are pros to the new version? That's news to me!
Cons: I had McAffee SiteAdvisor for a long time, and then i went to update it. Well, the update added an anoying 'safe search' bar which i found i could deactivate.
Then, all of a sudden, the thing uninstalled itself.
I gotta say, real nice job updating itSummary: Don't download unless you can find the previous version.

Version: McAfee SiteAdvisor for Firefox 26.6
Pros: Idea is useful.
Cons: Clutters up Firefox status bar with unwanted, unneeded search bar. Installs in IE unasked which interferes with functioning of FF add-on. It was fine before. They should have left well enough alone.
Summary: If you've got it, don't update.
